120)

it appears that i have been absent from here for quite a while.
my apologies!
in my defense, it has been a very busy few weeks.
what have i been up to?
well...

the photographer, his little brother, and i
all went out to washington, d.c. for the
rally to restore sanity and/or fear.
that's right. we left chicago friday evening,
drove out east all night, and got
breakfast at a waffle house in maryland
before heading downtown.

in a word, it was AMAZING. the weather
was perfect, the atmosphere was friendly
and exciting, and the rally itself? i was
blown away. there were so many awesome
performers, so many great moments.

it was so cool to be apart of something
like that. it is estimated that there were
between 200-250,000 people there. wow.
honestly, i am so goddamn glad that we went.
sure, we got very little sleep--that's what
happens when you travel from chicago to
washington d.c. and back in 36 hours--it was
such an incredible adventure, and something i
will remember for a long time.
We hear every damn day about how fragile our country is — on the brink of catastrophe — torn by polarizing hate and how it’s a shame that we can’t work together to get things done, but the truth is we do. We work together to get things done every damn day. The only place we don’t is here [Washington D.C.] or on cable TV. Americans don’t live here or on cable TV. Where we live our values and principles form the foundation that sustains us while we get things done, not the barriers that prevent us from getting things done.
-Jon Stewart
in addition to going out to washington, i
started a new job. i've been there about
two weeks and so far, everything's going
wonderfully. it's so much fun! i think i'm
going to be very, very happy there.

i'm still writing about fun outdoor recreation
opportunities and adventures here (after a
brief hiatus). i'm also starting a new experiment
of sorts... i started a tumblr. it is in no means
a replacement for this blog--i consider it to be a
short-hand form collage of everything i love. i've
been over there a lot lately, so check it out:
here & there & everywhere.

still can't believe it's november,
that it's almost thanksgiving.
where is time going? i'm excited
for the future, for everything
yet to come. life is good.

  1. Gah, I so wanted to go to the rally! I bet it was a total blast. Also, I love that quote by Jon Stewart. I think THAT is the message that we need to hear right now in the environment that we're in. Not doom and gloom. I swear, we do it to ourselves.

I live in Detroit and we were considering going. We would have done what you did where we either hopped the train to get there or drove there and back in two days. I'm so glad you had a good time. I love Jon Stewart and Colbert. I think they are a good reminder that we have to laugh at ourselves once and a while to keep from losing our minds.

  2. P.S. You can delete this comment later if you want, but your Tumblr link is wrong. I think you have an extra dash in it. Just by the way. :)

  3. Never mind, actually. Your link works just fine. My browser was being fussy.

  4. i agree completely! it was such a worthwhile experience. it sounds silly but i wish i could have brought everyone with me, honestly. jon had a lot of really good things to say, and being a part of something so huge was absolutely incredible. i'd do it again in a heartbeat!
