in addition to my goal of finishing up couch-to-5k this month (i haven't been to the gym in over two weeks, thanks to the flu, but i'm hoping to get back into this upcoming week), i am also challenging myself to write 30 poems in 30 days.

it's june 1st (somehow!) so here is number one.

on the eve of our
sixth anniversary--
how can it already
be six years since
our very first glance?--
we are sorting and
organizing, packing
and repacking,

tucking the various
pieces of our lives
into boxes.  we are
preparing for the
future, of course,

but i've always thought
there's something about
trimming away the
excess, remembering fond
moments gone by.

i look at the boxes on
the shelf and smile:
shot glasses; lava lamp;
journals & notebooks--

ready and waiting
for the start of a
new chapter, patient
and still.
