there under the steady
hot shower, i rinse the
chlorine out of my
sun-streaked hair (the
remaining essence of
summertime). outside,
near-yet-distant booms
ring out into the heat.
i find myself remembering
this holiday, but years
ago... so young, but so
sure. fireworks in the
alley all night; bright
bursts of color and vivid
light over the lake. it seems
so long ago, and i am
older now, but my heart
still beats with that same
familiar anticipation, the
same exhilaration.
